Building Inclusive Excellence: Mastering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Modern Workplace

Foundations of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Diversity is good for business. Not just for obvious reasons of meeting the needs of diverse customers and workforce, but because it’s the right thing to do. Extensive research shows that diversity significantly impacts the bottom line, plus many more non-financial measures of success. Inside this session, participants will:

  • Define Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Understand the reasons why Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are important for individuals and organizations
  • Recognize we all have bias as part of our makeup and the part unconscious bias plays in our mental processing
  • Create awareness of how the participants define themselves based on their lived experiences
Uncovering Hidden Bias

As discussed in Session 1, we all have biases, and unconscious bias is part of how we process our experiences. In this session, participants will:

  • Explore common unconscious biases such as Confirmation, Anchoring, In-group, Negativity, Attribution, and Sunk-cost Bias
  • Understand how unconscious bias shows up in Leadership
  • Experience the impact unconscious bias has on routine decisions through case scenarios and discussion
  • Identify what each person can do on an individual level and develop a personal action plan based on the tactics discussed
Creating a Culture of Allyship

By understanding and identifying microaggressions, recognizing privilege, and leveraging the power to create change, leaders can nurture meaningful allyship. In this session, participants will:

  • Understand the meaning of microaggressions and that the impact may not align with the intent
  • Learn how to interrupt microaggressions to begin demonstrating allyship
  • Explore the meaning of privilege and power in their different forms and how they relate to allyship
  • Understand what it means to be an ally and what it takes from each individual
